We mean it when we say we bring music lessons to life.
We work with every member to set clear musical goals and work diligently to help them achieve musical success as they define it. Meaning, every element of instruction is designed to culminate in a tangible outcome. Click here to have a peek of what’s scheduled right now from open jam sessions to live gigs. And have a look below for some of the regular, cool things we do with our community.
Musical Workshops and Masterclasses
Our members participate in a variety of workshops and masterclasses with topics ranging from songwriting, rhythm basics, and music theory. New workshops are added constantly to give our members the opportunity to go deeper into their musical journey.
A vibrant community of like-minded professionals who share a passion for music is what differentiates us from traditional guitar lessons or drum lessons. Through one-on-one introductions, periodic mixers, and social media networking, we will encourage interaction between members and will help to arrange ongoing jam sessions for all interested members. Playing alongside others helps you grow musically. Sharing the experience is what makes it fun.
Member-Only Open Jam Sessions
To encourage interaction between members, we help members bring what they’re learning in their individual lessons to our private, open jam sessions. We hold these sessions regularly in our main jam room and members frequently work together to schedule time to play together. These sessions are empowering, organic, and a lot of fun. Members typically submit in advance a list of songs they’d like to play. We map out the songs, and have our staff back members up on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals when needed. Of course, beer is on us.
Nothing inspires musicians more than an upcoming gig. As part of your membership, we will book periodic gigs at known live venues for our students to perform in front of an audience, either with other Altered Stage members or with our house band. It’s an opportunity to live the rock & roll experience. We perform at places like Reggie’s Music Joint, Paramount Room, Emporium Arcade Bar, and other intimate venues. We’re currently booked for afternoon gigs monthly at Reggie’s Music joint on the last Saturday of the month. Great way for the kids, family, and friends to see our members rock out live.
Composing, Recording, Publishing
We believe that writing music is the fastest way towards understanding it. We will work with you to compose your own original works. Once you’ve developed a body of work, we can leverage our network of musicians and production professionals to bring your creative work to life. We find the studio musician options; you pick the ones you want on your album. We book the studio time; you drive the recording session. We’ll book the mixing and mastering services, and you can show up and manage the process. We have access to album artists and record production companies that turn your ideas into actual records or CDs, and then publish them on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc., through our Altered Records label.
I’ve enjoyed learning to play drum parts for covers. But it has been especially gratifying to write lyrics, work with Nick on the music, and then play songs that we’ve made together. Songwriting encourages both the personal creativity and close musical collaboration prized by Altered Stage.
